In Philosophy, Religion and Ethics you will study the work of some of the world’s greatest thinkers, as we seek answers to some of the most challenging questions. Philosophy, Religion and Ethics puts an emphasis on the development of philosophical skills, especially argumentation and the opportunity to consider your own position.There are three components to the course: Philosophy of Religion, Ethics and Buddhist Thought. You will consider problems such as the nature of evil, sexual ethics, and the role of the conscience. An open mind and a willingness to examine some of the most difficult questions of life are essential for this course.The final qualification is an A-level in Religious Studies awarded by OCR.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above. A grade 5 in English is required.

Philosophy, Religion and Ethics is an exciting programme of study. Lessons are varied and are designed to introduce students to new and alternative ways of thinking and building arguments. There are a number of trips throughout the year, such as the annual Sixth Form Philosophy Conference at the University of Southampton and a visit to a Buddhist Monastery – which includes a meditation session. Students might also have the chance to go on a residential abroad to learn about key sites relevant to their studies.
100% essay-based exams. Three exam papers (one for each component).
