Overview

This exciting BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport provides a dynamic exploration of the sporting world, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to thrive in this growing industry. The two-year course, equivalent to one A Level, is designed to be practical and engaging, perfect for students with a passion for sport who want to develop a strong foundation for further study or a sports-related career such as sports development, sports performance, coaching/teaching, officiating, sport and leisure management, sports therapy or the Armed Forces.

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics. You will also need grade 5 or above in Physical Education.

The course is built around four core units, offering a comprehensive understanding of the science, practice, and business aspects of sport. Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology: Delve into the fascinating world of the human body, exploring how it functions during physical activity. You’ll gain a solid understanding of the musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems, all crucial for optimizing performance and preventing injuries. Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being: Learn the principles of designing and implementing effective fitness programs. This unit covers key areas like periodization, nutrition, and exercise selection, equipping you to create personalized training plans for various fitness goals, from general health and well-being to enhancing athletic performance. Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sport Industry: Gain valuable insights into the diverse career paths available within the sports sector. Explore various roles, industry trends, and essential employability skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership. This unit will prepare you to confidently navigate the world of sports professions. Unit 4: Sports Psychology: Uncover the fascinating world of the mind-body connection in sport. This unit delves into factors influencing performance, such as motivation, anxiety, and mental imagery. You’ll learn how to develop mental resilience and strategies to optimize focus and performance under pressure.By the end of this course, you’ll possess a well- rounded understanding of the sports industry,be equipped with transferable skills sought after by employers, and have a clear direction for your future in the exciting world of sport.

This course will be delivered through lecturers, combining practical and theory sessions as you complete internal assessments. The course will involve you working on different tasks and activities which will go towards your final assessment.
