This qualification is aimed at newly employed or volunteer (minimum of 12 hours a week) learning support staff in primary (Reception class included) and secondary schools. It will enable the learner to build knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to a range offering support roles in schools.
You will need to be employed or volunteering (minimum of 12 hours) as a learning support assistant within a school environment.There are no formal entry qualifications for this course, however, you will need an appropriate level of Literacy.
This programme is unit based. To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, learners must achieve 30 credits in total from the following units.On this course you will study:Child and young person developmentSafeguarding the welfare of children and young peopleCommunication and professional relationships with children, young people and adultsEquality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young peopleHelp improve own and team practice in schoolsMaintain and support relationships with children and young peopleSupport children’s and young people’s health and safetySupport children and young people’s positive behaviourSupport learning activitiesYou will choose two units from optional groups. To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete all 11 units.
You will be taught in the College environment using a variety of methods.
You will be required to complete one assignment for each unit. All units are internally assessed. You will also be assessed within the workplace, showing competence against criteria given. A variety of teaching methods will help you complete assignments. You will be encouraged to share good practice with other support staff in group discussions.
The qualification aims to enhance and increase opportunities for support staff, this allows candidates to progress to Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
