Overview

The objective of this qualification is to develop your understanding of a range of mental health problems, which could be used to support your role in the workplace or where you may interact with individuals with mental health problems.

There is an expectation that you would have a minimum of Level 1 English or skills at that level prior to enrolment.

On this online course, you will study the following units:

  1. Understanding mental health
  2. Understanding stress
  3. Understanding anxiety
  4. Understanding phobias
  5. Understanding depression
  6. Understanding post-natal depression
  7. Understanding bipolar disorder
  8. Understanding schizophrenia
  9. Understanding dementia
  10. Understanding eating disorders
  11. Understanding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  12. Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  13. Understanding Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Once you have enrolled on the course, you will be allocated a tutor and assigned to your learning platform. An induction will follow and then you will be able to commence your course.

You will be assessed by submitting individual units of work and you will receive feedback for each unit as you progress. There is no final exam.

On completion of this course, you will be ready for the workplace or have enhanced your existing work skills. You could progress on to any other distance learning course or look at the Level 3 options.

The staff that will be supporting you through this course have expertise in Health and Social Care and Education.

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.

David Stenning, Public Services student

The tutors were really supportive and it was all thanks to them that I have achieved what I have. I’ve also made loads of great friends and really enjoyed my time at the college.

Lizaveta Sinkerich, A Level student

I’m very, very happy, I didn’t expect to do so well. The College has been helpful and supportive. I loved my courses, and the teachers were really good – every single one of them. The facilities are great, but it’s the staff that really make this place.
