Getting Ahead

Textiles A Level at Havant Campus

A Level Textiles is an exciting, creative subject that enables you to explore and develop your design, fabric manipulation and construction skills across Art, Fashion and Textiles. We will encourage you to find your own style and way of working and be open to experimenting with many different processes and techniques.

We have put together the following ‘Getting Ahead’ work to help prep you for your course in September.

We can’t wait for you to start College with us soon!

Did you know? Biocouture, or fashion made from environmentally sustainable material, is a growing industry, and companies are looking at waste from wood, fruit, and plants to make their clothing more biodegradable once you have finished using them?

Use recycled materials that surround you in an ingenious, creative way to make an article or accessory. This could be jewellery, a bag stitched from denim, cut up strips of old T-shirt plaited, and woven, electrical wire wrapped around another recycled material, perhaps plastic bottles or thick card. Be inventive; can you add different materials together, glue, staple, stitch, or lace together using string? Whatever you have to hand before you pile it up for the charity shops or recycling. Bring this with you at the start of the course.

"I am delighted with my results and am really looking forward to studying Law at Oxford University. I really enjoyed my time at HSDC Alton and I really appreciate all the help and support from my fantastic teachers, without whom I wouldn't have got my place at Oxford."

Catherine Goldie, HSDC Alton A Level Student

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.

Laura Hagedorn, A Level student

The teaching and support was really great, the quality was really great, all the teachers really care about your education as well as your wellbeing, they take everything into consideration and they’re great.
