Fitness Centre at South Downs

Remain active at college.

You can find everything you need to stay in shape, improve your fitness and carry on playing the sports you love at our Sport and Fitness Centre at South Downs Campus. This facility is run by our Sport and Public Services Department and is supervised by qualified Fitness Instructors or Personal Trainers.

Here’s what you can expect:

The Gym at South Downs Campus is open at certain times throughout the day for student use, as well as community use at evenings and weekends.

Students

Please speak to your tutor directly for the enrichment timetable for daytime use.

Public

For public use, the Gym is open weekdays 5-9pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm. There is no joining fee or contract – you can pay per session for £3.50 or a monthly payment of £15 (no contract). We are also now offering gym inductions free of charge. For information on joining, please contact community@hsdc.ac.uk.

The Studio is mainly used for specific exercise classes like circuit training, for example. It also hosts staff sessions and a range of evening classes for the public.

During the day, our Sports Hall is used for practical indoor sports such as basketball, netball and five-a-side football, plus other activities such as uniformed services drills and employment fairs. It also hosts external bookings such as archery and netball and other community groups.

Our purpose-built climbing wall is used by outdoor adventure course students and is available to other students through our Be Active programme.

We have a number of fitness classes available to college staff and students and the general public.

Energise & Burn

When: Tuesdays, 5.45-6.30pm
Where: South Downs Campus Fitness Centre Studio
Cost: £3 per session for HSDC staff/students & £4 per session for public/gym member
Description: A HIIT inspired workout, designed to be fun yet challenging. Bring along all your energy to get your heart rate up and your body moving.

Tone & Condition

When: Wednesdays, 7.30-8.15pm
Where: South Downs Campus Fitness Centre Studio
Cost: £3 per session for HSDC staff/students & £4 per session for public/gym member
Description: An all-body workout for all fitness levels, to increase muscular endurance and begin to tone your body.

Circuits

When: Thursdays, 5.15-6pm
Where: South Downs Campus Fitness Centre Studio
Cost: £3 per session for HSDC staff/students & £4 per session for public/gym member
Description: A session focused on getting all major muscle groups working with fun exercises and a quick pace to get your blood circulating.

Our Football Academy is known as the Hawks and benefits from a partnership with Havant and Waterlooville FC. As a football academy member, you will have the opportunity to enrol on a variety of courses within the sports department and benefit from first-class coaching.
