A Level Mathematics students at Havant & South Downs College were recognised for their outstanding achievements this year with a presentation of certificates.
This academic year, high achieving students have taken part in: The Senior Mathematics Challenge, The Senior Mathematics Team Challenge, The Senior Mathematics Kangaroo, the British Mathematics Olympiad (round one) and the British Mathematics Olympiad (round two).
On Thursday 17 May, these students were celebrated for their success with a presentation ceremony.
Lecturer John Rogers said: “It has been an incredible year for Mathematics at Havant & South Downs College, and it felt only right to reward our incredibly talented students with a presentation of certificates for their success.
“I have seen how far these students have come in such a short space of time, and I have honestly been blown away by the level of skill I have witnessed in these challenges they have taken on.
“Congratulations to all the students who have taken part in any of the Mathematics challenges this year.”
John added that he wanted to say a ‘special congratulations’ to: Jack Brew, Josh Jones, Jake Reeve and Daniel Claydon for their third place in the Senior Team Challenge.
John added that student Daniel Claydon also achieved a Bronze Medal in the British Mathematics Olympiad (BMO), which is awarded only to the top 50 mathematicians in the country.
Speaking to the students, Vice Principal Dan Beale said: “Maths is just about everywhere – there are so many careers in the subject that hopefully you will pursue in your futures.
“You have all done incredibly well this year, and awards such as these are the types of things that will put you above the rest if you decide to apply to university.
“Thank you also to the teachers that have supported you, they have inspired you enough to take Maths to a further level. I look forward to hearing about your future careers wherever you go.”
