Alton College student makes National Theatre shortlist, competing against 90 other schools and colleges.
Delphi Hayes, who studies A Level Drama at our Alton Campus, was one of 468 who submitted a script to feature at The National Theatre’s New Views Festival. Delphi was then selected as one of 9 to be part of the prestigious festival, which is an extremely incredible achievement.
The chosen scripts will all receive a professionally rehearsed reading at the festival in the Duffield Studio, as a celebration of their success on Wednesday 5 July and Thursday 6 July 2023. The rehearsed reading of Delphi’s script ‘Bill & Bunny’ will be directed by professional director Luke Kernaghan and produced by Jess Moffat, National Theatre Learning.
Natalie Randall, Programme Leader for Arts and Humanities said:
“I run New Views as an extracurricular project for first-year Drama A Level students. Writing a play and sharing your work takes courage, bravery, honesty and self-discovery and I am always blown away by their ideas.
Going through this creative process also helps the students when it comes to devising as part of their coursework. I can’t wait to watch the rehearsed reading of Delphi’s play on Thursday 6th July at the Duffield Studio.”
The panel thought Bill & Bunny was exceptional and we hope Delphi is incredibly proud of what she’s achieved!”
Delphi added:
“The New Views programme is an opportunity to create and write your own script, with an amazing support network of playwrights and other creatives who help and inspire you with the process.
It has been amazing to be given this outlet. I have found it very motivating, and it has been so wonderful to have a reason to write. My favourite part of the process was establishing the character’s backstories and getting to know them and make them as believable as possible.”
