HSDC keeps getting better and better

August 15, 2024

Havant Campus

HSDC is thrilled to announce the exceptional achievements of A Level, T Level, Vocational and Technical students.

This year’s results reflect the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our students and staff and builds upon the superb Ofsted report published earlier this year.

Key Highlights

A Level Success: Our A Level students have once again demonstrated their academic prowess, achieving remarkable results across various subjects. With a pass rate of 98% and almost half of our students achieving A*-B grades, many students have successfully paved the way for their future academic and career aspirations. 40% of students studying Further Mathematics obtained the very highest A* or A grade. This confirmed the strong comments from Ofsted when visiting Mathematics lessons in May 2024 as the inspector commented on A Level Mathematics learners at the Alton and Havant Campuses demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills.

In addition, during an election year, our A Level Politics students did extremely well across both Havant and Alton Campuses with the achievement of 50% A*, A and B grades with a 100% pass rate overall. A Level English Literature students are also celebrating great success with 70% achieving the highest A*, A and B grades across both Alton and Havant Campuses. These outstanding results are a testament to the rigorous academic environment and the unwavering support provided by our dedicated teaching staff.

T Level Triumphs: As the leading College locally for T Levels, HSDC is proud to celebrate the success of our T Level students. This year, our students have once again excelled in their respective fields, outperforming the national data for these qualifications, achieving a superb 91.4% compared to the national pass rate of 88.7% and achieving higher rates of Distinction and Merit grades than students elsewhere.

The responses from Ofsted regarding the T Level provision were fantastic to receive, which highlighted that T Level learners develop strong industry related skills which contribute effectively towards their success in the classroom. The combination of classroom learning, and industry placements has equipped our students with the skills and experience needed to thrive in their chosen careers and further supports Ofsted’s recent comments that learners enjoy their course and feel part of a caring college community. We are grateful to our industry partners for their continued support and collaboration.

Vocational and Technical Brilliance: Our vocational students have also achieved phenomenal results, with a significant number of students attaining high grades. Three students from South Downs did brilliantly, achieving the very highest triple Distinction* in BTEC Sport and Exercise Science. In addition, nearly all Acting, TV and Film Production students achieved Distinctions at the South Downs Campus and the Esports course at both Alton and South Downs remain very successful with half of the students achieving Distinctions. These achievements highlight the effectiveness of our vocational training programs and the dedication of our staff in providing a supportive and enriching learning environment which further supports Ofsted’s recent comments that both learners and Apprentices are supported well to achieve high grades. Our vocational graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce or pursue further education, contributing to the community.

Future Pathways: Many of our students are now preparing to embark on the next stage of their educational journey, whether it be university, higher apprenticeships, or entering the workforce. HSDC remains committed to providing high-quality education and training, ensuring that our students are well-equipped to achieve their goals and make a positive impact in their chosen fields.
